Wood Turning Basics - Rolling Pin
Dave Hout, a master woodturner for 25 years, guides guest Jane Lueders through the process of turning a rolling pin from a block of glued up woods. Hout identifies the woods as poplar, cherry, walnut, Baltic birch plywood and oak, explaining that carpenter?s glue is used to secure the boards together.

Wood Works - Arts and Crafts-style Nightstand
Based on the design motifs of the arts and crafts style of the 1920s, the mission table in this Wood Works project features strong horizontal lines, mortise-and-tenon joinery and a natural wood finish. Quarter-sawn white oak makes for a distinctive grain pattern that is a trademark of this period style, and subtle details such as the beveled through-tenons add to the refined look of the piece.

Wood Works - Mission-style Ottoman
Based on the design motifs of the arts and crafts style of the 1920s, the mission-style ottoman in this Wood Works project features strong lines, mortise-and-tenon joinery and a natural wood finish. Precisely milled wood and subtle details such as the beveled through-tenons suggest strength and fine craftsmanship

Wood Works - Oak Stepladder
Designed for heavy use as well as good looks, this stepladder is crafted from quarter-sawn white oak -- which is known for its durability. The footprint of the ladder gives you solid support, and the steps and top are set into dado grooves and fastened with screws. To hide the screw heads, proud tenon caps are cut from rosewood, beveled and set into square mortises. For a decorative touch, strips of rosewood cap the front of each step

Wood Works - Pyramid Art Pedestal
This art pedestal is a contemporary construction that?s perfect for displaying your personal works of art. The angled base of veneered Australian lace-wood tapers to a contrasting top of rich wengae. The top rises from three stacked frames that oppose the angle of the tapered base, and is capped with distinctive green marble tile. This strong and simple design will complement, but not overwhelm, any art display

Wood Works - Three-panel Folding Screen
Host David Marks demonstrates the basics of mortise-and-tenon joinery, as well as other major steps, in the construction of an Asian-influenced three-panel folding screen. This elegant decorative piece is made from gorgeous Australian lace-wood panels, an ebonized frame and knuckled wood hinges. The distinctive frame is highlighted by angle-cut accents and a crescent-ridge design.

Wood Works - Woodturned Vessel
In this episode, host David Marks demonstrates a hollowing technique for creating a wooden vessel on the lathe. Using a set of tools especially customized for hollowing, he fashions a vessel out of black walnut. A fixture on the lathe called a steady rest is used to hold the solid walnut block, while a special hand-tool is used to bore and hollow out the inside of the block. To give the vessel a refined look and highlight the grain pattern, it is finished with tung oil.

Woodburning Design Pattern by Garys Woodburnings
One of my hobbies is pyrography or woodburning. I have a selection here for you to view and I will be adding more images as I complete them. I hope you enjoy my page. I consider pyrography an art while those in the fine art community consider it a craft. To each their own! Thank You,Gary.

Woodburning Patterns

Wooden Decorative Candles
These Decorative Wooden Candles are fun to set around for decorations or for gift giving. They are easy to make and are a fun family project.

Wooden Teak Door Mat
You can build this wooden mat in a couple of hours, and it will serve you well for many years. The segmented design lets the mat lay flat, even on irregular surfaces. I used teak because of its beautiful grain and durability. For a more economical alternative consider white oak or ash.

Yard Art - Duck Family Lawn Ornaments
This is a cute little project that will make your garden look like a fun place to be. It comes from Marilyn?s dad Frank who made these many years ago. They are simple enough that the kids could help make them for Father?s Day. If they do help be sure to supervise them to keep them safe.

Yard Art - Flying Duck
This is a wonderful project suggested by Ann one of our newsletter readers. We found an old and broken one to make a pattern from and then modified it a little. This project looks deceiving simple. There is a lot of tedium in getting the wing holes in the right place and the right weight. Once you get it right it looks great and is a real conversation piece.

Yard Art - Gingerbread Man Lawn Ornament
The template to create your own wood Ginger Bread Man Lawn Ornament follows this introductory page. The final figure is about 20-1/2? tall and 14-1/4? wide. When the template is pieced together, all that is necessary is to cut on the outer border to complete the general shape. Routering the top edge will create a soft bevel for a more complete, finished look. Sand and paint like the finished sample shown, add a ground stake to the back, and your done!
