Dust Collection Hood at The Lathe
As an answer to the questions about collecting dust, shavings, and debris at the lathe, I offer the following observations.

Dust Collector Shavings Extractor
A dust collector is essential in a woodturners workshop to keep fine sanding dust under some sort of control. The dust collector can also be used as a vacuum cleaner for removing shavings from the workshop. A simple cloth bag type is quite adequate for sanding but has problems when used as a shop vacuum cleaner. The inlet to the dust collector is fitted with a guard to prevent large objects being ...

Dust Collector Using a Toro Leaf Blower
Plan to build a dust collector using a toro leaf blower.

Dust Cyclone Project
Growing concerns over health issues plus the constant layer of dust over everything in my shop led me to the project of building a DIY cyclone. This is a detailed account of the construction as well as some info that I think will be useful to those starting from scratch. I hope you find the information contained in this page useful

Lathe Dust Control Part i ~ Dust Extractor Head + Dust Deflector System
This idea started out as an experiment to find the best solution for Dust Control around the Lathe, I had for a long time been dissatisfied with the amount of Dust that ?Missed? the various gadgets I had attached to the end of the Hose from my Dust Collector.

Lathe Dust Control Part ii ~ Workshop Ventilation + Air Drying Wood Store
Having decided to proceed I first obtained a suitable Fan and Motor based on exchanging the Air in the Workshop 10 to 15 times an hour as this seemed a reasonable amount for what I was wanting to achieve and corresponded with some Ventilation Guidelines for Dusty Environments.

Lathe Flexible Lathe Lights + New Dust Deflector Light Unit
For many years I have got by with using, the almost Woodturners Standard Light, the ?Angle Poise Lamp? and over the years have got through a number of these as the Plastic Parts wilt under the residue from Finishes and Polishes, so when the current Lamp required another temporary repair job I decided to re-think my whole Lighting Arrangement around the Lathe.

Lathe Morse Taper Ejector + Rasps from Bandsaw Blades + Addition to Safety Switch + Paper Towels
I have never been happy using the Ram Bar approach for removing any item with a Morse Taper from the Tailstock Barrel as I felt their were too many opportunities for damage, particularly when the Morse is a little tighter than normal in the Barrel. My solution was to use the Barrel Retraction of Tailstock to insert a force on what ever was fitted into the Tailstock of the Lathe whether it be a Jac...

Lattice Air Conditioner Cover
You can build a latticework cover for your outside air conditioning unit

Make Your Own Dust Collector
Pictured [at this link] is a very efficient portable unit built from a dryer blower / motor, cotton bag, vent hose and some scrap plywood. A call to your local washing machine repairman should supply you with a source for a used blower/motor combination, the rest is easy.

Miny Cyclone Dust Collector
Ok why cant I use the old vac and just connect it up to some sort of separator for the larger particulate mater. I could always use the shop vac but that thing is so darn heavy and loud. Hence I decided to build a mini-cyclone. Having built a few larger ones I figured it would be a snap. And it was.

Pre-separator for Your Dust Collection System
Adding a pre-separator to your single-stage dust collector will save you time and money.

Pvc Dust Collector Port
Recently when building my own router table and fence, I found that an ordinary 3? to 1?? PVC reducer works great as a dust collector port

Roving Safety Switch for The Lathe
Safety Foot, Elbow & Hip Switch for the Workshop + Wiring for Reversing Lathe Rotation

Rv Hose Fittings Dust Collection
See how WOOD magazine reader John Hardy used RV sewer hose fittings for quick disconnects.
