The Jon Jasinski Kevin Bourke Project (PART 4) - (EXPLICIT)
David Heckler, Director. Color. DV. Documentary. The tragedy and comedy of life in a dysfunctional family in the Chicago suburbs. Jon Jasinski and Kevin Bourke are my distant cousins. When I first met them, I was struck by how talented they were. How expressive they were and still are. Jon lived in a house with four adults who made his life miserable. Kevin lived in a separate house, but his life was equally miserable. They both had a band. They both were such great artists. Yet nobody in their families saw that. Jon lived in a house with a hoarding packrat, a terrible grandfather, his rough mother, and his drugged up aunt. Kevin lived at his father's house because he was kicked out of the house Jon lived in. This is the story of two kids struggling to be themselves in a world of adversity. This family's dysfunction goes beyond the dysfunction that we see in most "normal" families.
A sidenote: A lot of people have thought that the house looked destroyed because of the fire that broke out in the garage. False. The house always looks destroyed on the inside. This is because of Judy's "packrat" OCD and a lot of other things. This was the last of my truly meaningful student flicks. I was supposed to bring in something that clocked in at ten minutes, but there was just too much of a story here. The final piece clocks in at over a half hour long, but it's because I found everyone in the house to have a story. My first real sync-sound project, I love this movie. I love it because I built a relationship with the two primary subjects. My original goal was to film the dynamic between the boys and their family. But then the fire broke out in the garage. The Tinley Park, Illinois fire department saw how much garbage was inside the house and declared it unlivable because a stretcher would not be able to be easily wheeled around the interior, should an emergency occur. Jon and the adults sort of went to their own respective living places for the time being, while Kevin went to take permanent digs with his father. This story is sad and humorous. It got pulled for festivals as well.
